Rules
1. Contestants
– All Vietnamese and foreign citizens within the following age groups are eligible for the competition.
– Contestants must be 9 years of age or older and will be divided into 3 categories:
+ Category A: 9 – 13 years old
+ Category B: 14 – 17 years old
+ Category C: 18 years old or older

3. General rules regarding compositions:
– Only classical compositions (excluding compositions in Jazz, Blue, Broadway, semi-classical, or light music style) are allowed in the competition.
– Contestants shall play by memory, without the aid of sheet music.
– Sonata’s 1st movement must be Allegro. – Movement shall not repeat.
– Contestants are not allowed to change their repertoire after registration.

4.2. Contest requirements
4.2.1. Preliminary round (Online Audition):
– Contestants film the piano solo themselves and upload to the account provided by the Organizing Committee.
– Video format: mp4, YouTube link.
The submitted video must follow this naming convention: fullnameofcontestant-dateofbirth-category
E.g.: johndoe-13122000-bangA
– Provide details of personal information and the compositions (full name, year of birth, address, phone number, e-mail, name of composition and composer).
– Submitted video must capture the entire body of the contestant, be of high audio and visual quality, and be free of any editing and alteration.
– The Professional Jury (PJ) selects excellent contestants to advance to semi-final round.
4.2.2. Semi-final (livestream)
– The PJ picks 15 most accomplished semi-finalists (5 per category) to advance to the final round.
The number of semi-finalists to advance to the final round shall be at the PJ’s discretion.
– 01 contestant from each category who has the highest scores given by the Honored Members of the International Audience (HMIA) and Netizens (voting is conducted on the contest’s fanpage, beginning at midnight after the semi-final round and transfered to scores) will directly enter the final round.
– If the HMIA and Netizens picks the same contestant as the PJ, the PJ shall choose the next best contestant (with the second highest score) to advance to the final round.
– Score conversion for Netizens’ votes
The score earned by Netizens’ votes (conducted on the contest’s fanpage, beginning at midnight after the semi-final round) is as followed:
+ 1 like = 1 point
+ Public share on personal timeline with hashtag: #fullname, #codename, #SIUPianoCompetition2022, #asianschool = 2 points.
4.2.3. Final round (livestream)
– List of Compositions for Piano Concerto performed by contestants of Category B and C
+ J. Haydn: Piano Concerto in D major Hob. XVII: 11
+ W. Mozart: Piano Concerto no. 19-27
+ L. Beethoven: Piano Concerto no. 1, 2, 3
– The PJ will select:
+ From Category A and Category B, each:
– 1 Gold
– 1 Silver
– 1 Bronze
– 1 Promising Talent prize
+ From Category C:
– 1 Gold
– 1 Silver
– 1 Bronze
– Scoring in the Final round:
+ TheProfessional Jury: 90% of the total score
+ The Honored Members of the International Audience: 5% of the total score
+ Fanpage votes by Netizens: 5% of the total score
The score earned by Netizens’ votes (conducted on the contest’s fanpage, beginning at midnight after the semi-final round) is as followed:
+ 1 like = 1 point
+ Public share on personal timeline with hashtag: #fullname, #codename, #SIUPianoCompetition2022, #asianschool = 2 points.
4.2.4. Gala night and awards ceremony
The Professional Jury selects the most impressive entries to be performed live in gala night.
4.2.5. Preparation for the final round
In preparation for the semi-final and final rounds, each contestant shall make a video clip recorded at SIU’s campus presenting their style and musical direction. The video will be posted on the official competition fanpage.
5. Scoring criteria:
– Understanding of the composer’s and composition’s style;
– Techniques;
– Expression and delivery of the composition’s mood
6. Competition rules:
– Piano to be used in semi-final and final rounds: Fazioli F278 provided by SIU.
– Contestants must always be punctual.
– All compositions must be played by memory;
– Any documentations, videos, etc. submitted for or related to the competition will not be returned to any individual/organization.
– There is no exception to the rules.
– The Organizing Committee reserves the rights to record audially and visually at any time during the competition and hold the rights to these records. Contestants shall not benefit from any royalty or commission from their performances.
– The Professional Jury has the final decision on disputed matters.
– Upon entering the competition, the contestants agree that the Organizing Committee reserve the rights to publish, release submitted records and images as well as documentation pertaining to other activities for commercial purposes. The Organizing Committee may edit and crop the contestants’ photos for commercial purposes, such as publication on media outlets.
– Contestants shall provide for accommodation and transportation themselves during the span of the semi-final and the Final rounds.
