Hoang Ngoc Long
Honored Artist (H.A.) Hoang Ngoc Long was named Deputy Director of HCMC Conservatory of Music in May 2019 and later Acting Director of HCMC Conservatory of Music in November 2020.
H.A. Hoang Ngoc Long first learned French horn in 1978 from his instructor, Mr. Tran Minh, at the Hanoi Conservatory of Music. From 1982 to 1992, he continued his study abroad at Tchaikovsky Conservatory, U.S.S.R., under the guidance of Professor Valeriy Polekh and Alexander Demin. Upon returning home after graduation, he became an instructor of French horn at HCMC Conservatory of Music.
Aside from his work at the Conservatory, H.A. Hoang Ngoc Long also performs and has collaborated with HCMC Ballet, Symphony, Orchestra and Opera as the head of French horn section for over 20 years. Since 1995, he has frequently collaborated with the Vietnam National Symphony Orchestra. H.A. Long has been on many tours to many countries in the region, including China (where he played under Fukumura, a Japanese conductor), Lao and Japan (where he played under his fellow conductor, H.A. Tran Phuong Thach).
Nguyen Thuy Yen
Master of Music (M.M.) Nguyen Thuy Yen graduated with the highest distinction, becoming the valedictorian of Piano Performance at HCMC Conservatory of Music in 2000 under the guidance of Honored Pedagogue (H.P.) Tran Thanh Thao – former Deputy Dean of Piano Department at HCMC Conservatory. In 2005, she graduated with the Master degree in Piano Performance under the guidance of Professor Nguyen Huu Tuan (Honored Artist, H.A.) – former Dean of Piano Department at Hanoi Conservatory of Music, and Prof. Dr. Tran Thu Ha (People’s Pedagogue) – former Director of Hanoi Conservatory of Music (now Vietnam National Conservatory of Music).
She has contributed to many performances organized by HCMC Conservatory of Music as well as by HCMC Ballet, Symphony, Orchestra and Opera (HBSO). She is currently the Deputy Dean of Piano Department of HCMC Conservatory of Music.
Thanks to her immense skill and intensive practice, M.M. Nguyen Thuy Yen was considered a piano talent and upon graduation, she was invited to several solo performances as well as concerts with the HBSO Orchestra under conductor H.A. Tran Vuong Thach, HCMC Conservatory of Music Orchestra under Spanish conductor David Gomez Ramirez, Dutch conductor Stulen, American conductor Glenn Block, etc.
M.M. Nguyen Thuy Yen was one of the organizers and performers in the HCMC Conservatory of Music’s Piano Festival in 2011 and the second International Piano Festival in 2013. She was also a member of the judge panel in the national round of 2012 International Steinway Youth Piano Competition. She has also been a judge in the non-professional panel of HCMC Piano Competition since 2015.
Eun Young Joo
Pianist Eun Young Joo graduated with the highest distinction from the Vienna State Conservatory in 2000 under the guidance of Professor Leonid Brumberg – assistant to the renowned Russian Professor Heinrich Neuhaus, Professor Roland Batik, and Professor Paul Gulda – child of the late Friedrich Gulda, a monumental figure of the Vienna musical scene. Joo obtained the Doctoral degree with the highest score under the guidance of Professor Sergei Cenkov at Gnessin State Musical College (Moscow, Russia) in 2007. She performed with several prestigious orchestral ensembles such as Vivaldi Chamber Orchestra, Russian National Philharmonic, Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, etc.
Joo’s awards are numerous, from the Vienna’s Erika Chary Foerder competition in 2000 and the “Allegro Vivo” International Music Festival in 2001, to the South Korea’s Piano Society Competition in 2002. She has been a solo pianist accompanying multiple prominent orchestral ensembles such as Vivaldi Chamber Orchestra (Moscow), Russian National Philharmonic (Moscow), Wien Academy Chamber Orchestra (Vienna), Janáček Philharmonic Ostrava (Czech), Korean National Symphony Orchestra, KBS Philharmonic, Seoul Sinfonietta (South Korea), and HBSO Orchestra (HCMC). She has given extraordinary performances of Bach, Mozart, Haydn, Schubert, Beethoven, Chopin, Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff, Gerschwin and Connesson. Joo has composed a number of solo works while in South Korea, Europe, America, and Vietnam. She attends the annual charity concert organized by KFE in collaboration with the Vietnam’s Red Cross, aiming to help the Vietnamese war invalids. As a chamber musician, she once accompanied New Paris Wind Quintet and Michel Morages and Patrick Messina from CNSM de Paris in a concert in Seoul.
Her first CD album was recorded in Studio 1 Abbey Road, London, and released in September 2008. She has also performed for TV channels HTV and VTC10 (including a 30-minute documentary titled “Joo Eun Young”) in Vietnam. She is currently the professor instucting graduate classes at HCMC Conservatory of Music.
Le Ho Hai
Pianist Le Ho Hai began piano lessons with People’s Artist Thai Thi Lien and graduated with a Bachelor of Music Degree in Piano Performance from the Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music under the tutelage of Meritorious Teacher Tran Thanh Thao.
He continued his professional studies in France with Professors Muriel Blaisse, Anne-Marie de Lavilléon, and the world-renowned pianist Désiré N’Kaoua and graduated with First Prize in Piano Performance of postgraduate in the Cycle de Perfectionnement at the Saint-Maur-des-Fossés National Conservatory of Music and at the Versailles National Conservatory of Music.
He participated in many national and international competitions and won Second Prize at the Autumn National Music Competition in Hanoi, 1993; First Prize at the Concours Musical Regional d’Ile-de-France in Paris, 1999.
Le Ho Hai has performed for Vietnam Television, solo recital as well as soloist with the Symphony Orchestra of Saint-Maur-des-Fossés National Conservatory of Music, the Ho Chi Minh City Ballet Symphony Orchestra and Opera. As a chamber musician, he has performed with violinists Maryvonne Le Dizès, Sylvie Gazeau, Nguyen Huu Nguyen, Nguyen Huu Khoi Nam, cellist Jêrôme Lefranc, pianists Patrick Zygmanowski, Boris Kraljevic, Rena Cheung-Phua, Van Hung Cuong… He has been invited to give a lecture and conduct piano Masterclasses at the ASEAN Piano Pedagogy Forum organized by School of Young Talents – NAFA, Singapore. He has served as a jury member in many piano competitions in Vietnam and abroad. His students have won top awards in many national and international piano competitions.
He is currently a Head of Piano Department at the Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music.
